Biographical Information
    Kate Themel is an award-winning artist and quilt teacher living in Cheshire, Connecticut.  Her work has been
    exhibited all around the United States in galleries, offices, art shows and quilt festivals.  

    Kate was born and raised in Upstate New York.  She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Studio Art from the
    College of St. Rose in Albany, NY.  After graduation, Kate spent 10 years working in the corporate world while
    keeping an artistic dream alive - creating quilts and paintings on a commissioned basis.  

    After surviving cancer at age 33, Kate decided to focus her time and energy on the things that make her truly
    happy.  In 2004, Kate left her corporate job and started her own small business.  The process of starting over and
    carving out a new career path is what inspired the name "Square One" Design.

    Kate's fabric art pieces have won awards in national juried competitions, such as the Sisters' Outdoor Quilt
    Show in Sisters, Oregon, known as The World's Largest Outdoor Quilt Show.
    Her fabric portrait "Anticipation of Discovery" was chosen as the featured image on the promotional postcards
    and banner for the New Art from an American Tradition exhibit, part of the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival.

    Kate's custom quilts have been commissioned by business owners and private collectors in the United States,
    from New York City to San Francisco, and as far away as Rijeka, Croatia.

    Classes
    Art Quilting Classes begin September 17th 2008 at ArtsPlace (Cheshire, CT)
    Kate will be using her quilt "Magnolias" as a project example.  Students will experiment with various fabric art
    techniques, and will complete at least one art quilt to take home.  For further details about this class or about
